Reasons behind Cortijo Jurado licence removal

The Malaga Urban Planning Department has rescinded the planning permission for a hotel project at Cortijo Jurado, located in Campanillas (Malaga). This property, colloquially known as 'la casa encantada' (the haunted house) in Malaga, has garnered notoriety due to numerous reports of eerie phenomena such as mysterious voices and unexplained sounds, earning it a reputation as one of Spain's most famous 'haunted' buildings.

Construction work halted at the site back in 2007 when the developer, Mirador de Campanillas, faced legal embargoes. Although the planning permission was extended in 2009, the department has decided to revoke it now, potentially paving the way for the city hall to sell the property by the year's end to facilitate future development.

Nevertheless, the developer has a 15-day window to lodge an appeal and three months to seek a new license. Despite being put up for auction twice, both attempts were suspended due to organizational errors.

The building currently stands in a state of disrepair, exposed to the elements since construction began. The hotel's skeletal structure, intended to open in 2006, lies beneath the main building.

Cortijo Jurado, a grand mansion dating back to the 19th century, now lies in ruins adjacent to the A-357 highway. It was commissioned by the influential Heredia family of Malaga

While numerous young girls did vanish during that era, no concrete evidence ever linked their disappearances to the Heredia family. Many believe that their wealth and influence shielded them from facing legal consequences.
